Kunstmuseum Basel settles on Pissarro painting with Jewish collector’s heirs

The Kunstmuseum Basel has reached a settlement with the heirs of Richard Semmel, a Jewish collector who sold Camille Pissarro's painting under duress in 1933 after fleeing Nazi Germany.

The museum agreed to pay a sum close to the market value of the artwork, acknowledging the forced nature of the sale.
