Galeet Dardashti is on a mission to promote Middle Eastern Jewish culture through music

Galeet Dardashti, raised in an Ashkenazi household, felt a distinct difference in her family's culture and music.

A college trip to Israel unveiled her Mizrahi heritage, revealing that her grandfather was the renowned Iranian Jewish singer known as the "Nightingale of Iran."

This discovery propelled Dardashti, a singer and anthropologist, to delve into Middle Eastern and North African Jewish culture. She became the first female in her family to continue their Persian musical legacy and co-created a six-episode documentary podcast about her grandfather's journey.

Currently, Dardashti serves as the artist-in-residence at Beth Tzedec in Toronto, hosting multiple performances throughout the month. She emphasizes the importance of recognizing diversity within Jewish identities, particularly in North America, where Ashkenazi culture often prevails.
